Michael:” Nikita? where are you? Nikita?”

Voice: “ Michael why are you here?”

Michael:” where am I ?”

Voice:” where do you want to be?”

Michael:” with Nikita “ he looks around and sees a bright light and many shadows.

Voice:” she is not here. You must go back, It is not your time.”

The Voice turns his face and Michael sees a white room, filled with Drs. and Nikita is in 1 corner screaming. Madeleine is holding her, he gets closer and sees his body, lying in a pool of blood, he looks at the light.

Michael:” am I dead?”

Voice:” you are dying. Do you want to die?”

Michael looks at Nikita, she is struggling with Madeleine, her screams are heart wrenching. “ No! she needs me, I have to go back. “

Voice:” as you wish”

Suddenly Michael is flying and as he enters his body he feels extreme pain, his body jerks and convulses.

Dr. “ we have a heartbeat! “

Nikita:” please save him, Please!”

Madeleine:” Nikita he is back, Listen to his heart beat. “

The Drs. make Michael comfortable, he leaves to prepare the O.R. for Michael. he makes sure his heartbeat and breathing are regular.

Nikita:” may I stay? Please.”

Madeleine: looks at the Doctors, The Drs. let her know he needs her here. “ yes, I will get you a cot so you can stay here with him.”

Nikita stands beside the bed, she takes his hand and kisses it.
“ Michael why did you have to step in front of me? I am not important, You should never have tried to protect me. look at you now. I can’t loose you, Please don’t leave me” she lies her head beside Michael’s and cries.

The doctor comes in and pulls her away from Michael’s body, “ we need to get him into surgery now Nikita”

Nikita leans over and kisses his lips, “ come back to me please”

He is taken into surgery.

10 hours later

Michael moans and Nikita looks at him, his eyelashes are fluttering and he is moving his head, there is something in his throat, he moves his right hand and feels the breathing tube and with one swift motion extubates himself, he is coughing and wheezing, he opens his eyes, but he flinches as the light hits them, he closes them again and slowly opens them, he turns and looks at the huge, frightened, sapphire eyes of his love.

Michael: “ Ni-ki-ta? Water”

Nikita stands and gets a glass of water.

Nikita slowly, she lifts his head and holds it, helping him to drink

Michael:” what happened? “

Nikita:” you stepped in front of the bullet that was aimed at me. you went into cardiac arrest. I…we almost lost you “ she takes the cup from him and stands to let the Drs. know he is awake.

Michael:” Nikita, I Couldn’t let you get hurt.”

The Drs. come in and check him out, the bullet wounds are still closed, his color is better but his eyes are still glazed. They tell him that he needs to spend at least 5 days in medlab, and then he can go home, he will need at least 2 weeks rest.

Nikita stands in the corner watching the Drs. take care of Michael.

The door opens and operations and Madeleine walk in.

Ops:” doc, how is he?” he is looking at Nikita who has walked back to Michael’s bed side and is holding his hand.

Dr. “ he needs 5 days to rest, and then he will be released to go home, he needs at least 14 days to recover.”

Madeleine:” Michael will you stay here for the 5 days?”

Michael:” No, but I will oblige, and stay 24 hrs.”

Madeleine:” Michael you know how close to death you were?”

Michael:” yes. I am fine now”
He looks at Nikita and squeezes her hand, she looks at him and smiles.

Ops:” we can force you to stay put. Sedatives and restraints. “

Michael: he sighs “ fine I’ll stay.”

Nikita is trying not to laugh, She knows that as soon as ops and Maddy leave he will release himself, and she will have to stay with him.
** oh Michael, When will you ever rest enough to recover fully**

Madeleine stands beside the bed and caresses his hair, as she is doing this she is administering a sedative, she smiles at Michael and when he moves his head, she stands back.

Ops:” well you have 1 week to recover and Nikita may stay with you. both section rulers leave.”

Nikita smiles and turns towards Michael, she sees that his eyes are glazed, she takes his hand and kisses it.

Michael feels the sedative taking effect and sighs, Maddy is getting better at being sneaky, I need to stay awake.” Nikita, my coat, a small vial, get it, she sedated me, hurry.” his eyes feel heavy and his eyesight is very blurry, he feels a languid tranquility.

Nikita:” Michael why don’t you just rest? Just sleep a little.”

Michael:” please, This is very strong, I can’t control it ”

Nikita takes the vial and administers the stimulant, his eyelashes are fluttering and he is loosing consciousness, she takes his hand and just holds it, waiting to see if the stimulant worked, after a few minutes Michael jerks awake.

Michael:” my clothes, please” he looks into her eyes knowing he needs to ask her to stay with him at home.

Nikita :” here let me help you. “ she helps him to stand and dresses him, He is swaying on his feet and his knees are weak, he can barely stand.

Michael:” will you stay with me? Please, I’m still a little dizzy.”
He smiles softly, just enough for Nikita to see.

Nikita:” you know I will. ”

Michael takes her hand and kisses it and leans down to kiss her lips softly.

Michael tries to walk, but the pain is excrutiating, he doubles over and groans, Nikita is worried, but she holds Michael until he stops shaking.

Nikita:” are you sure about leaving? You could stay just for a day."

Michael:” Ill be fine, I just need some of those pain killers, and maybe some fluids, please help me, I can’t stay here.”

Nikita:” alright, but sit here, let me get the pain killers ” she helps him sit on the bed, she goes and calls Walter to help her, she will not be able to get Michael out of here without help, the sedatives, his wounds and the pain have stripped every ounce of strength he has.

Nikita :” Walter, I need you, Michael wants out, but he is too weak, he can’t stand on his own, he is in a lot of pain, he will hurt himself if I let him leave alone, please help me get him home, I have the pain killers he will need and some sedatives, to help him rest” she takes walter’s hand and begs him to help her.

Walter:” alright sugar, we will use the back entrance, I will get the car, try to keep him as stable as possible, he lost a lot of blood and even with the transfusion he still will be extremely weak and he could collapse at home, make sure you have everything you will need, sugar I will help you if you need it, just call me and I will be there.” He squeezes her hand and smiles at her.

Walter has gone to get Nikita’s car and Nikita is on her way to get Michael.

Nikita walks into the medlab room and finds Michael slumped against the wall, his breathing is labored, and he’s loosing consciousness fast, “ Michael, What happened? Are you alright?”
She takes his arm and puts it across her shoulders, and helps him stand, he is swaying on his feet, very weak, he is white as marble, shaking a little and sweating profusely.

Michael:” I’m fine, Let’s get out of here. “ he takes a step and his knees buckle, he holds on to Nikita and smiles sweetly at her, she helps him to the bed, and makes him sit.

Nikita:” Michael stay, just tonight, you are still very weak, can’t even walk, you should rest, please.”

Michael:” Nikita I need to leave, Madeleine will keep me heavily sedated, I’ll be fine, Please help me get out of here. “ he is barely able to speak, his voice a mere whisper, he is trying to control the pain and the effort is exhausting him.

Walter:” O.K. sugar, let’s roll” he takes one look at Michael and decides that if they are getting out, they need to do it now, the poor kid looks ready to drop.

Nikita takes Michael’s left side, and Walter takes his right, they slowly walk out of medlab and down the back hallway to the car, Michael is doing everything he can to control the pain and keep consciouss.

They deposit Michael in the back seat and Nikita gets in beside him, Walter is driving the car, suddenly Michael slumps against Nikita and she realizes he has passed out, she lays his head on her lap and tells Walter to hurry, that Michael has passed out and they need to get him home.

Once at the loft

Nikita and Walter take a semiconsciouss Michael to the bedroom and Nikita takes his clothes off and gets him in bed, she administers a dose of pain killers and he asks her to stay, she smiles and tells Michael that Walter is still here, he just takes her hand and holds it until he falls asleep.

Walter:” O.K sugar, he does not look good. Why does he not stay in medlab? He just got out of surgery 10 hours ago and he needs to rest.” he offers Nikita the cup of tea.

Nikita taking the tea Walter offered, “ he is too stubborn, but Madeleine sedated him and he hates that, he asked me to get the stimulant he carries with him all the time, ( don’t ask) I administered it and he regained consciousness soon after, he decided to leave medlab,“ she smiles and takes Walter into a hug, thanking him for helping her get Michael home.

Walter:” well you know how to reach me, if you need anything”

Nikita:” actually, I do need some things, could you go shopping? He has no food in here and I can’t leave him” she makes a list of foods for him to buy, She decides to call section and advise them that Michael is home and safe.

Walter takes the list and goes to get all that she asked for, he sure is a sucker for those mournfull, sweet, blue eyes of hers

Back at section, Madeleine is trying to keep ops from having a coronary.

Operations:” how can he get out? He was sedated for christ sakes. You administered it yourself, The strongest you have. And he still left? “

Madeleine:” Paul, calm down, yes I gave him the strongest sedative I have, the special formula, designed for him, but you know him, Nikita helped him, we know she is with him, that he is at home asleep and safe, that is all we need to know.”

Operations:” how long will he be out? I need him back soon.”

Madeleine:” according to Brian, he will need at least 8 to 10 days, And that is without any complications. I will send Brian tonight to check on Michael, we need to make sure he is recovering well.”

Operations:” alright, my dear, now how about dinner?” he is caressing her hand and she smiles softly.

Madeleine:” I would love to” she takes his hand and they walk to their dinning room.

Back at the loft, 4 hrs. later.
Brian:” well Nikita he is recovering nicely, but that little trip was unnecessary, You could have called me and I would have helped you bring him home.”

Nikita:” Brian you know him, he hates to be weak, And right now he is extremely weak. He has not woken up since I brought him home, and I am worried ”

Brian:” Nikita, He needs lots of rest, and sleep, here, this is a strong sedative, administer it 3 times a day, for 6 days, and get him to eat as much as possible, he is not going to be running a marathon anytime soon! Just keep him in bed, at least for 6 days.

Brian left and Nikita made sure the door was locked and the alarm system activated, she had put away all the food Walter brought and got a jug of water for Michael and brought it to the bedroom, she checked on him, he was still sleeping, quite fitfully, but at least he slept. she did not want to be far from Michael, so she brought the big, wing chair to the bedroom, put it against the side, by the window. she settled in the chair and fell asleep, about 4 hours later she awoke to Michael screaming in his nightmare, she went to him and tried to wake him, but it took her 5 minutes to wake him from his dream.

He awoke shaking, sweating and very hot, he was burning up. She gave him a glass of water, and checked his temp. it was 103.6 she needed to get it down now. He was slipping in and out of consciousness and he was delirious. She called Brian, but there was some big emergency and he could not come, so she called Walter, he arrived 20 minutes later, to hear the screams of a very delirious and scared Michael.

He helped Nikita settle Michael in bed, Michael was delirious, very anxious, Walter gave him a shot of antibiotics and another to get the fever down, Michael was still very out of it, His breathing was labored, he had dark circles under his eyes, and the fever was not coming down.

Nikita got Michael to sleep a little, she lied down beside him, holding him against her, and he was able to sleep for short amounts of time, but he was fitfull and his nightmares were severe.

Walter stayed in the couch until Brian arrived, Brian administered a sedative and gave Michael some antibiotics, Michael was able to sleep long and deep, Nikita thanked Brian and soon she had settled beside Michael, the fever finally broke and he was sleeping peacefully.

16 days later
Michael and Nikita were sitting in front of the t.v. watching titanic, when his phone rang, he grabbed the phone and walked to the kitchen.

Voice:” jaques”

Michael: ” on my way”

Voice:” bring Nikita”

The moment she saw his face she knew they had both been called in! she took the movie out of the v.c.r. And grabbed her coat.
45 minutes later they walked into section, Nikita went to Birkoff’s and Michael went to his office.

Briefing room

Michael, Nikita, Walter,Birkoff, and 5 other ops were at the table when operations walked in, he turned the holoscreen on and a picture of a man, about 35 years old appeared. Dark skin, eyes and hair.

Operations:” this is Emile Dragsfurn, who just happens to be the a level 5 op of “ blue sphere” a red cell splinter group. This special group has attained the formula for a designer virus that is the combination of the ebola, aids, malaria, and dengue viruses.

The name of this virus is “ obscurite” which means darkness, it was stolen from one of the biohazard plants in Orgeyev, Moldova, and transported by Dr. Dragsfurn to Germany on his last visit to the city.

Michael:” why do we get this case? Usually the c.d.c. or the N.S.A. gets this.”

Madeleine:” we were asked to deal with this by both agencies, due to the potencial danger that this virus could be on it’s way to the u.s.”

Operations:” Michael, you and Nikita will be scientists going on a routine visit to the biochemical plant in the city of Heidelberg, Germany, red team will be your back up , you will be picking up Dr. Emile Dragsfurn , we need him alive for interrogation!”

Nikita:” when do we leave?”

Madeleine:” in 2 hrs., go to walter for your weapons and I need both of you in my office in 30 minutes for further Intel, and to get your Pda’s.”

Operations:” Michael, Nikita, this is a very deadly virus and we need to contain it before it lands in the states, you will have to be very careful, if you get infected, it will kill within 10 days. Unless the antidote is given, and as far as we know there is no antidote. Any questions? No, good, dismissed.”

Michael stands and watches as Nikita walks out towards Walter’s office, he walks to his office and closes the door, sits on his chair and he checks all there is to know about this virus, which is very little, the symptoms once the victim is infected are devastating, they include, vomiting, nose bleeds, severe headaches, loss of muscle coordination, weakness, convulsions, shortness of breath, internal bleeding, desintegration of the organs which leads to death, very painful, very slow,

the onslaught of symptoms appears after the first 72 hrs. after exposure, it is 100% deadly.

Michael looks towards Weapons and watches as Nikita is checking the weapons, he saves the Intel on a disk and walks towards Walter, he stands beside Nikita and takes the 9 mm from her hand and gives her a small smile, they start walking and she looks over her shoulder at Walter, who is standing there frozen by the sight of these 2 communicating without words.

They walk towards one of their secret hideaways, and when they arrive Michael takes Nikita by the arms and slams her against the wall, and kisses her with all the pent up passion and love he can never demonstrate in section, they both come up for air and Michael opens the small palm top, and shows her the file on the virus.

Several minutes later she looks at him and they exchange a promise, to stay together and to watch each other’s backs, and if one of them is infected, they will cancel the other before the pain sets in. they kiss again and walk towards Madeleine’s office, the door opens and they watch as Madeleine is pruning one of her bonsai trees.

Madeleine:” Michael, Nikita please seat down” she goes to her desk and gives them their pda’s which have the Intel on the biochemical plant and their new Intel.

Madeleine:” Michael you will be Dr. Michael Robitalle, a biochemist, Nikita will be your partner, Nikita Dupree, you must never loose sight of each other, the biochemical plant is very secure, it has 3 check points, your ingress will be no problem but your egress could be a big problem, due to their security.

Birkoff will be monitoring you at all times, and Walter has designed some new trackers, and comm units for you.”

Nikita:” how can we know if we have been infected? “

Madeleine:” the van will be equipped for this, the driver will be the only other op. On site when you come out, you will enter the van, take a sample of skin and blood and transmit it here.”

Michael:” how long until we know if we have been infected?”

Madeleine:” 12 hrs., the test starts to show the virus within 12 hrs. of exposure. That is why you should never be alone, if for any reason you get separated, you will be put into quarantine for 72 hrs. together, and then examined by our Drs.”

Michael:” if we are exposed, what is the POS ? “

Madeleine:” the Possibility of survival is 5 % after you have been infected With the antidote, without the antidote it is only 1 % survival rate. We are working on making the antidote from the sample we have, it could take days to create it. “

16 hrs. later ,
Heidelberg, Germany, schelinger biochemical plant

Michael and Nikita meet their contact and walk through the 3 check points, they are introduced to Dr. Dragsfurn.

Dragsfurn:” it is a pleasure to have you both visiting our plant, I will take over the visit Mr. Stern.”

Michael:” we need to see the containment procedures on the level 5 contaminants, and we also need a lab to check for the common contaminants. “

Dragsfurn:” yes of course Dr. Robitalle, I have set you up in lab 7, one of our most isolated labs. You have at your disposal 12 techs and as many samples as you need, this way please. “

Nikita:” we work alone, we will not need your techs, thank you anyway”

They are shown to a big lab, which contains all that is neccessary for them to check the virus and take the samples that section needs.

Michael:” Dr. Dragsfurn, we would be honored if you would accompany us for dinner tonight.”

Dragsfurn:” yes that would be wonderful, about 7 ? “

Michael:” yes that will give us enough time to have a look and to check some of the level 3 and 4 contaminants.”

They are taken to the decon chamber and Dragsfurn , Michael and Nikita put the biosuits on and enter the level 4 and 5 contamination zone.

Dragsfurn is called away and leaves them alone in the level 5 contamination zone, where the “obscurite” virus is kept. They take the samples and leave the area, they go to the lab and spend the rest of the day checking the results of the study, as 5:00 pm approaches they realize that the virus is not there, the samples are all contaminated, and realize that this is a set up.

they walk slowly towards the exit and Dragsfurn catches up to them and then all hell breaks loose, the security guards sorrounds them, Michael gives Nikita the look,‘start fighting and get out of here’ but when Nikita is slammed against the wall, Michael loses his concentration and they tranq him.

Michael wakes up in a small cell, his head aches and he is dizzy, and nauseaus, he hears the door opening, someone is dragged in and dropped at his side, the door closes and it is Nikita, she is not moving, he tries to rouse her, but to no avail, he settles her on his chest and waits. A few hrs. later Michael is awakened to watch Nikita caressing his chest, she is still semiconsciouss and he again tries to wake her, she opens her eyes and he smiles, they kiss and the door opens, 4 big, bouncer type men come in and grab them, tie their hands and take them down the stairs and into a large room, there is interrogation equipment everywhere, Nikita is seated on a chair, Michael is dragged to the wall, where he is tied to a stake above his head.

Dr. Dragsfurn walks towards Michael and smiles, Michael just keeps his eyes on Nikita.

Dragsfurn:” well Michael, it looks like your agency is after my little virus. Who do you work for?”

Michael does not answer, and the goons start hitting him, Nikita is watching as Michael is severely beaten and she sees he is almost blacking out. Then when the Dr. realizes Michael will not speak, he decides to use Nikita, he walks to Nikita and grabs her breast and squeezes hard, he backhands her and a trail of blood slips from the corner of her mouth.

Michael is trying to get out of the shackles, but he cannot. He watches as Dragsfurn beats Nikita, after some time, she passed out, and they go to Michael and inject him with something that makes him convulse with pain.

Dragsfurn:” Michael why are you so stubborn, look at her, she is the one who will suffer if you don’t tell me who you work for”

Michael is trying hard to stay awake and control the pain, but the goons come in and beat him again, the drug is powerful and he slips into unconsiousness, he is awakened by Nikita’s screams, he is in the cell and when the men come to take him to the interrogation room, he fakes unconsciousness, they don’t tie his hands and as they are dragging Michael down the stairs he attacks.

Michael kills the 2 men, takes their weapons and runs towards the screams, Dragsfurn sees Michael from the corner of his eye and hits the red button on his desk, and runs out the door.

Michael kills the 3 men who are torturing Nikita and unties her, he carries her fireman style and runs as fast as he can to the exit, they hide in a warehouse for a few hrs. when Nikita wakes she feels pain and dizziness, she tries to stand but Michael makes her sit, he checks her and finds she is better than him, she was never drugged only beaten.

Michael:” Nikita how do you feel?”

Nikita :” I’m fine, just a bit bruised.” she smiles at him and that is when she realizes he is very pale, and has a slight sheen of sweat on his skin, and she remembers that he was injected with something yesterday?, maybe it was today?

Nikita:” Michael Are you alright? You don’t look good.”

Michael:” I’m fine” but as he stands a wave of dizziness washes over him and he drops to his knees.

Nikita:” Michael Here hold on to me, what is it?”

Michael:” just a little dizzy.” he tries to stand but he is very weak and she puts his arm over her shoulder and helps him to the cot, she makes him sit and she checks him out, he is pale, he is shaking, his skin is drenched in sweat and his breathing is shallow and rapid.

Nikita:” do you know what they injected into you? Could they have introduced the virus? Michael stay with me! “ Michael’s lids are heavy and he is loosing consciousness.

Michael:” Nikita, I’m tired, let me sleep a bit, here lie down with me “

Nikita hears a noise and she grabs Michael and runs to the back door, as she is walking out the door the front door crashes open and there is gun fire, she pulls Michael out and drags him to a truck, Nikita gets into the driver side of the truck, and opens the door for Michael, she gets grazed in the left arm by a bullet.

Michael is running when he gets shot on the side, his knees buckle and he falls to the ground, he screams at Nikita to leave, but she backs up the truck and pulls him in, the window shatters as Michael is shot again, This time in shoulder. He slumps semiconsciouss into the dashboard and she drives like a bat out of hell.

they are being pursued, for about 30 miles, Michael is bandaging her arm and after he covers her wound he closes his eyes, lies against the seat, he is holding his left side, below his ribs, he is loosing too much blood, she drives into a cluster of trees and stops, their pursuers pass them by, and they drive towards Rastatt and the French border.

she stops at a small gas station and changes cars, Michael is trying hard not to pass out, but a few minutes later when she comes back with their car, and helps him into the passenger seat he slumps against her, his skin is pale and he is shaking form loss of blood and god knows what else.

she drives into what looks like an abandoned farm and parks in the back, she checks if someone is in residence and finding the place abandoned gets Michael out of the car and takes him inside, the farm is old, and very run down, she finds a mattress and deposits Michael on it.

she goes to the car and gets the medbag and makes sure that no one can follow them, she takes Michael’s coat and shirt off, and gently cleans his wounds, he is unconsciouss and his breathing has become labored and shallow.

she has to decide whether to call section for help or to go to the rendezvous and hope Michael can stay alive until then! She bandages his wounds, and decides to call section.

Nikita dials the number and waits for someone to answer.

Op:” what is the code?”

Nikita:” clearance code 357 black I’m section one. Patch me through to H.Q.“

Op:” yes ”

Birkoff:” sir there is a call from Nikita, emergency line.”

Operations:” patch it through”

Operations:” Nikita? why are you calling?”

Nikita:” sir, we have been compromised. The virus was not there, we were captured, tortured and Michael was injected with something, Dragsfurn escaped, and Michael has been wounded, he is in very bad shape. I was shot in the left arm, but I am fine, we need an egress now”

Madeleine walks into the perch and listens to Nikita give her report, Operations looks at her and she shakes her head.

Operations:” hold Nikita “ “ well Madeleine? what should we do?”

Madeleine:” they are in enemy territory and Michael is badly wounded, maybe infected, she must have found a place to hide, but they will be looking for them, the best alternative is for them to get to Dormstadt, to the sub station, but it will be difficult, you have to decide, are they important enough for us to not go after Dragsfurn?”

Operations:” we need Dragsfurn, they put a tracker on him, but we need Michael alive. By what Nikita says he is in pretty bad shape, It could be too late. ”

Operations:” Nikita we will call you back in 15 minutes” He is about to hang up when he hears Nikita take a sharp intake of breath and stays on the line.

Nikita watches as Michael goes into a severe convulsion. She runs to him and tries in vain to hold him down. “ sir Michael is convulsing, It is severe. I’m trying to hold him down, but the convulsion is very strong.”

Madeleine:” Nikita how much blood has he lost?”

Nikita:” I don’t know, Maybe 2 liters? I am not sure, but his breathing is shallow and his skin is very pale almost ashen.”

Madeline:” do you still have the medbag?”

Nikita:” yes”

Madeleine:” check the bottom right side, there should be a small black box, in it should be the instruments to check for contamination, We need you to take the bullets out and check if he is not contaminated by the virus.”

Nikita watches as Michael goes limp, and his breathing is more shallow and labored than before, his skin has turned a grayish white color and his lips are turning blue.

She goes to the medbag and takes the black box out, goes to Michael, takes the bandages off and tells Madeleine that she is going in to look for the bullets now, she puts the phone down and takes the bullet out of Michael’s shoulder first, then she applies pressure to stop the bleeding, and goes to his side, it takes her 10 minutes to find the bullet and pull it out.

She rebandages his wounds, checks his vital signs, his breathing is shallow and very labored, his heart beat is rapid and erratic, she takes the phone and goes to the table, sets up the mixture for the test, and dips the bullets into the mixture one by one. After about 10 minutes she checks the test results they come out as negative, the virus has not infected Michael.

Madeleiene:’ good! Give me his vitals”

Nikita:” his breathing is shallow and labored, his heart beat is racing, and his skin has turned a grayish-white color, his lips are turning blue. "

Madeleine:” stand by we will call you in 15 minutes”

Operations:” Madeleine? why is he in such distress?”

they decide to send Nikita a message through her pda, they go to send the message, as they are doing this Operations and Madeleine are discussing the alternative, Michael could be damaged, so they decide to send a message to the sub station for the immediate cancelation of them both.

As Nikita is waiting to hear from section she gets a message through her pda, Birkoff tells her to get out of there and run, Ops and Maddy are going to cancel them, because they think Michael is unsalvageable And walter tells her to go to restatt there is a safe house there, not section’s.

Nikita thanks Birkoff and tells him to tell her where her cristal and Michael’s are? She needs to take them out.

Birkoff:” Nikita your cristal is under you left arm pit, Michael’s is on his right calf, you need to take them out and destroy them.”
Nikita:” Birkoff thank you, tell walter thank you, goodbye. I love you both.”

Nikita walks to Michael and checks his vital signs they are improving. His breathing is still shallow and labored, his heart beat is becoming regular and his color is returning to the pale white color, not so grayish.

She goes into the medbag and finds a stimulant, she debates whether to give him the stimulant or just take him to the car and drive away. She decides to give him the stimulant and wait.

After about 15 minutes Michael starts to come around, his eyelashes are fluttering and he is moving his head from side to side, she holds his head and talks to him.

Nikita listens to Michael and when he says invalid she jumps up and grabs the medbag, the water and the blankets and runs to the car, then she goes back to the house and helps Michael stand and walk to the car, she settles him under the blankets and drives towards the French border, Michael tells Nikita to stop at a motel and get a room, they need to get the cristals out, and rest.

Nikita:” well we got the honeymoon suite. Come on, let me help you”

Michael; drapes his arm around her shoulder and leans heavily on her, he is dizzy and very weak, he is shaking, his eye sight is blurry and his head hurts badly. They walk up the stairs and into the last room on the floor, Nikita sits Michael on the bed, she makes sure he is alright and goes to the car for the medbag.

Michael:” Nikita I will have to check you to find the cristal, just come..”

Nikita:” Michael I know where they are. Birkoff told me. mine is under my left arm pit, and yours is on your calf”

Michael :” alright, come here I’ll take yours out first and then you’ll take mine out”

Nikita takes the scalpel and gives it to Michael, he puts it under the flame of a lighter, and gives Nikita something to bite into, he feels for the cristal, and makes a small incision, he takes the tweezers and pulls the cristal out, and destroys it, he closes her wound and checks on her arm wound, it is healing well.

Nikita after resting for 15 minutes takes the scalpel, helps Michael turn on his stomach, he grimaces in pain, the bullet wound made a lot of damage on his side. she takes the scalpel, puts it under the lighter, and does the same procedure Michael did, after she closes his wound and rechecks the other wounds she helps him to lie down and they both sleep for a few hrs.

Michael:” NOOOO! Please No. Nikita!”

Nikita wakes up as he screams her name and takes him by the shoulders and shakes him, he sits up and screams again her name, He jerks out of her arms and almost falls out of bed.

His breathing rapid and shallow, She takes his hand and tells him he was having a bad dream. He hugs her to his chest, her face against his heart. And he lies back down holding her tightly.

They fall asleep, and for a few hrs. they are happy, in each other’s arm.

As the sun breaks through the window and hits Michael’s face, he wakes to the feeling of happiness and contentment, Nikita is sleeping beside him, her cheek against his heart.

He slowly tries to disentangle from Nikita, but Nikita feeling Michael move, wakes up and looks straight into his eyes. He slowly leans down to kiss her, and they join their mouths in sweet surrender, they kiss each other so tenderly and after a couple of minutes they both come up for air.

Michael gets up but he is still extremely dizzy and weak, his legs can’t hold him and he drops to the floor, Nikita is at his side immediately and puts his arm across her shoulders, helps him stand and slowly takes him to the bathroom, she comes in when he calls her, she drapes his arm over her shoulder and helps him back to bed, she gathers all the things they have into the bag and walk out of the motel room, they get into the car and drive toward the French border.

Rastatt, Germany, a small town, close to the French border.

They drive into Rastatt and find the safe house, she drives up to the beautiful house, it is big and looks old, she leaves a semiconsciouss Michael in the car, and goes to check the place out, she come back a few minutes later, Michael had blacked out a few hours after leaving the motel and was still semiconsciouss,

Nikita helps him walk to the house and takes him to one of the bedrooms, she settles him into bed and goes to the kitchen, they have not eaten for 3 days and she knows Michael needs nurishment and liquids, she finds the kitchen well stocked, she takes some soup and heats it up, and makes some lemonade, whoever this house belongs to, they keep it well stocked! She takes the soup bowls and lemonade up to the bedroom, Michael is still groggy and disoriented, she helps him sit up and eat, he barely eats a few spoonfuls, he drinks the lemonade thirstily and tells Nikita he is very tired and wants to sleep, but she does not let him.

Nikita:” Michael, you need to stay awake! Please, just talk to me for a few minutes, it’s not good that you are sleeping so much!”
As Nikita is telling him this he tells her he needs the bathroom, she helps Michael to the bathroom and after a few minutes, she opens the door, Michael is slumped over the toilet, vomiting, she holds him until there is nothing coming out, and he slowly settles back against her, she helps Michael to the bed and when she goes to the bathroom to wet a towel, she sees he had vomited blood. She gets scared, it means he is bleeding internally. And could very possibly die. She runs to Michael and asks him how long has he been throwing up blood?

Michael:” since the plant. I’m fine, Nikita just calm down, listen you need to get to Canada. “

Nikita:” No. I’m not leaving you. Don’t ask me that. You’re badly hurt and we need to get you help. You are bleeding internally. “

Dr. :” No! I can’t ” she sees the gun that is aimed at her side and the Dr. nods yes.

Nikita:” Drive, turn left at the light we need to hurry.”

They arrive at the house and Nikita takes the Dr. and goes to the bedroom, where she sees Michael trying in vain to get out of the restraints.

Nikita:” Michael It’s alright, here let me help you.”

Michael:” Nikita? did you tie me up? Why?”

Nikita:” I had to go get a Dr., you are in very bad shape, I had to make sure you would be here when I returned, I’m sorry.”

And we need to get some oxygen and some surgical instruments and anesthesia, we need to go to the hospital, I can get in and get them.“ they walk to the car and get the Drs. emergency bag. They drive to the hospital and Nikita threatens the Dr. with her daughter, she will go after her daughter if the Dr. Runs. The Dr. returns after 30 min. and they go back to the house.

the Dr. prepares the instruments and gives Michael some anesthesia, she intubates him and checks the oxygen levels and the heart monitor, she turns to Nikita and they start the surgery.

the Dr. cleans his abdomen and cuts, there is a gushing of blood and the Dr. is working feverishly to cauterize it, they finally are able to stop the bleeding but the heart monitor is emmiting a shrill sound, the Dr. realizes Michael’s heart is growing irritable with the small amount of blood traveling through his body, she takes another bag of blood and connects it, the Dr. inserted an I.V. line on 1 arm and the blood on the other, the Dr. goes to Nikita and tells her to stand beside his head, she needs to make sure he is breathing normally and that way she can finish the surgery.

she finally suttures the wound and gives Michael some antibiotics and painkillers, they transfer him to the bed and wait for Michael to wake up from the anesthesia.

Dr.krugg:” Nikita are you going to kill me?”

Nikita:” No Dr. you will be set free as soon as he is out of danger you can go. ”

Dr. krugg:” listen, I can’t leave my patient, whatever you do, it is not my concern, I took an oath to help and save lives and well I can’t stop now. Don’t worry, I want to stay.”

Nikita is sitting beside Michael watching the heart monitor and the breathing apparatus, they emit a soothing, sound, she takes his hand in hers, it is so limp and pale, but it feels warm, she makes sure the Dr. is sleeping and then she kisses Michael, she talks to him.

Nikita:” Michael, please come back to me, don’t leave me. I need you. I know you’re hurting but I can’t live without you!”

Dr. krugg watches as Nikita is talking to Michael, she can see the love Nikita has for Michael and she knows that that love is the one thing that will make Michael hang on, he should be dead! The amount of blood he still had was too little, and the bleeding was severe.

She watches as his heart beat accelerates and he tries to breathe on his own, the sign he is coming out of the anesthesia, she walks to him and takes the breathing tube out and checks his vital signs.

Dr. krugg:’’ he is coming out of the anesthesia, stay with him, I will go get some ice chips, for him”

Nikita holds his hand tighter and watches as Michael’s eyes flutter open, at first his eyes are unfocused and his pupils are fixed, but a few seconds later he closes his eyes and when he opens them again he looks around, tries to sit, but the pain stops him.

Nikita:” Michael, don’t move. you just had surgery, stay still, the Dr. needs to check you.”

Michael looks at Nikita and smiles, he is in a lot of pain, the Dr. checks his vital signs and makes sure he is resting comfortably, she goes to the chair and gives the couple some privacy.

Michael:” how long?”

Nikita:” 12 hrs. the surgery went well, but you have an infection, you have been running a high fever. The Dr. gave you some antibiotics and you will make a full recovery.” she smiles and squeezes his hand.

Michael:” Nikita, you need to run, they will find us soon. I will be fine, please save yourself, Mon ange, you are mon lumiere, Mon vie. I can’t loose you, Please go!”

Nikita:” Michael No. I am staying right here. I have told you I will not abandon you. You are still too weak, I love you, and nothing you say will make me leave you.”

Michael smiling, his eyelashes are fluttering, in an imminent loss of conscioussness “Nikita, I need….to tell you…… so many things, it is hard……. For me to say……..but….I love you So much! I am sorry that…… I…. H u r t y o u. “ his eyes flutter closed and he falls back into oblivion.

5 hrs. later

They would not stay, they walk up stairs to the bedroom, Brian goes and checks on Michael and talks to Dr. krugg, Walter takes Nikita into the hallway and tells her that they will have to dispose of the Dr., Nikita smiles at walter and tells him she won’t do it, he will have to, he takes her hand and tells her he will, but they have to move, section is close behind and they have less than 6 hrs. to disappear.

Brian makes sure that Michael is on the mend, he tells Nikita that they need to move Michael now.

Walter goes to the van and fixes the bed, they bring Michael and settle him into the van, he is still out, and they take a very frightened Dr. krugg and tie her up and blindfold her.

Nikita soothes her by telling her it is the way they can let her go. She takes the Dr. and sits her in her car and walks to the van, sits beside Michael and kisses his lips, she let’s a few tears fall for the good Dr. who chose to help Michael.

Walter drives to the forest, he knocks the Dr. out and gives her a drug that will make her confuzed and disoriented, he makes it look like the Dr. had a car accident and walks to the car he had parked close by.

he drives to the new safe house and walks in, Michael is on the bed, asleep, Nikita by his side, Brian is sitting by the window, and Greg is on the laptop, Birkoff is in the kitchen making coffee.

Walter takes over the watch for Brian, Brian checks Michael’s vital signs before going to sleep.

Michael wakes and looks around, he sees Walter on watch by the window, Greg on the laptop and Birkoff trying hard not to fall asleep on the kitchen table.

Michael coughs and everyone moves towards him, Nikita jumps and takes his hand, looking into his gray-green gaze! It is still clouded with pain and a little glazed, but the fever has broken and she kisses his hand, Brian comes to sit beside Michael and takes his vital signs, Walter and Birkoff are standing together, behind Greg, they are watching Michael.

Brian:” Michael, how do you feel? Any pain? “

Michael:” Brian? fine, not much pain, what are you all doing here? Where are we?”

Nikita:” I called Walter when you got worse, I was terrified, he told me that he would come, and bring Brian, Birkoff and Greg, they are stowaways, we couldn’t send them back, we are at a safe house, the last one was compromised.”

Michael is hearing all this, he is holding on to a tree, his breathing is rapid and shallow, he is bleeding from his abdomen and he does not care, he is holding his abdomen and trying to keep from collapsing, he listens to Nikita and Birkoff talking.
He is dizzy and faint, he is fighting the darkness that is at the edge of his vision.

Birkoff:” Nikita listen. He does need you, When we thought you died, he was lost, he made mistakes in the field, he had been hit 2 times and he did not care. He wanted to die. he was one step away from abeyance. He was dying inside! He thought he had killed you and he was lost. You saw him how bad he was when he lost Adam, He was the same when he thought you lost!”

Nikita slowed her sobbing when she heard Birkoff saying this and as she turned to Birkoff she saw Michael, he was pale, bleeding and was holding the tree for dear life!

Nikita:” MICHAEL! “ she ran to him just as he was slipping down to the ground, she caught him, held him tightly to her.

Nikita:” Birkoff get Brian! God Michael, what did you think you were doing?”

Michael: barely consciouss “ Nikita, I do love you. I am sorry for hurting you “ his eyes fluttered closed and he went limp in her embrace.

Nikita:” Michael? Michael don’t leave me, please stay with me. Michael! Wake up. Brian!”

Brian and Birkoff arrived to watch Michael go limp in Nikita’s arms, she screamed, and held him tightly to her, tears running down her face. They took Michael from her and took him to the cabin, Walter was walking towards the cabin when he saw them carrying a limp Michael in their arms and Nikita beside them holding his hand and crying her eyes out.

Walter:” what happened? Is he….?” He could not say it.

Brian:” no he is alive, but barely, he tore his stitches when he went after Nikita. he is bleeding profusely and is out cold.
Get the medbag, we need to close the wound and get some blood into him.”

Greg:” doc, we have no blood. We only have 2 I.V. bags! “

Brian:” Walter we need blood for him now. Go and find some!” they deposit Michael on the bed. He is pale and loosing blood fast.

Nikita:” wait, I have his blood type, use mine Please.”

Brian:” it would be too little. We need at least 2 liters”

Nikita:” just take it. It won’t kill me, please. I am the only chance he has. “

Walter and Brian look at each other and agree, Michael is deteriorating fast if they wait he could be dead within the hour.

Soon Brian notices that Nikita is becoming pale and sleepy, they have to keep her awake. Brian talk to her, but to no avail, she has lost consciousness, the last thing she said was “ my life for yours”

4 hours later

Michael awakes slowly, his whole body hurts, but he remembers that Nikita was about to jump. He jerks out of his slumber, and moans, he is trying to fight the waves of pain crashing into him.

Michael:” Nikita? god No!” he is in excrutiating pain. He doubles over with wave after wave of pain.

Brian goes to him and tries to hold him down “ Michael! Calm down, she’s fine! Look”

Brian points to a sleeping Nikita beside Michael, Michael slumps back on the pillow and tries to move closer to his love. The pain is severe and he blacks out, his head landing on her breast. Brian checks his vitals and reassures everyone he is alright, just passed out from the pain.

8 hours later

Nikita is sitting beside Michael, holding his hand, she is feeling better, she had passed out after she gave almost 2 liters of blood to Michael, Brian had gotten scared and sent Walter to town, to get some blood, walter returned 2 hours later and they gave Nikita a transfusion, she started to come around about 6 hrs. ago and the first thing she said was, Michael’s name.

Michael is still unconsciouss but his breathing has improved, his skin is pale but returning to it’s normal tanned color, and the fever that had ragged for hours after the last incident had come down. He had started to become fitful, and since Nikita was already beside him she just moved closer and started to croon to him, upon hearing her voice he calmed down and his sleep became placid again.

Brian was checking Michael’s suttures when Michael awoke.
Michael looked at Brian with a question in his eyes and Brian turned to look at a Nikita beside him, her eyes big with fright.

Michael:” Nikita why? Why did you try to kill yourself, I’m not worth your life “

Nikita:” Michael you are my life. Without you there is no reason to live. I can’t live without you” she leaned down and kissed him, her lips softly caressing his, her eyes full of tears.

Michael: kissed her back, with as much passion as he could muster
“ I am not worth your pain. You need someone who can love you freely. Someone who can love you with the same passion for life you have. I deserve to die, All I have done is hurt and kill all my loved ones. I can’t love you. If I love you I will kill you.” he turned his face away from hers and Walter intervened.

Walter:” Michael she almost died for you. She gave you her blood. If she had not done that you would be dead.
She lied to us about how bad she felt and how much blood we had taken. She was dying for you, Her last words before passing out were “ my life for yours” walter was mad that Michael would reject his sugar because he felt guilty.

Michael:” Brian? Nikita?” he turned to Nikita and almost cried out at seeing her paleness and the deep, dark circles under her eyes!
“ Nikita vous et mon vie! mon amour! I love you Forgive me” he kissed the tears from her eyes and groaned at the feeling of total freedom he felt when she kissed him back. In that kiss she gave her forgiveness, her love, her life to him.

Nikita was completely dumbfounded by Michael’s declaration of love. He had rarely spoken his feelings and now he was telling her, in front of witnesses that he loved her. and he was kissing her so sweetly and with such passion.

After Michael and Nikita made a vow to love each other forever they turned to the group and asked them what they were going to do. They had to leave this place soon and section was now after all of them. Michael was still feeling weak, and very dizzy, but he now had his life and love beside him. He was happy but worried about his friends, they had risked death to come and help them, and now they would be hunted down like dogs by section1.

Brian:” first Michael we need you to recover. No more walks in the woods for you 2. And Nikita you are now in charge of Michael, if he tries to get up you call me. Michael we need you alive. Michael was beginning to stand and walk, but he was still very weak and he tired easily, Nikita spent every moment beside him. Walter and Greg had left 2 days ago to hunt for a new hideaway, and Birkoff was tracking section’s advance. Brian looked at the couple and sighed, he was happy for his friends but wanted a love of his own.

2 days later Walter and Greg had come back happy at having found a cottage close by, it was isolated, and had only 1 way in, they packed everything and helped Michael to the van, he was mending, but his strength was slow coming back, he was able to walk on his own, but slowly and very painfully, so Brian and Nikita helped him into the van, and settled him in the bed, the drive was long and he needed to rest as much as possible.

They arrived at the cottage almost 1 day later and they took the bags and equipment into the house, Walter went with Birkoff to seal the area, making the perimeter safe, they secured the cameras and all other security equipment and went back to the cottage, the house was small, it had 3 bedrooms, the kitchen and a large living/dinning room, Nikita settled Michael in the large master bedroom, they had all chosen to give them the space.

Michael:” we need to take shifts, we need to stay alert, section will be following us soon, if they found us once they will again.
Brian I need to become more active, when will you take the stitches out?”

Brian:” Michael you still need to rest. At least 5 more days And the stitches stay for at least 2 more weeks. You were in very bad shape and you are not ready to return to your old games. You could still start to bleed and we would not know until it was too late! You can do tactical, and computers, but no moving.

Michael tried to say more but Nikita took his hand and squeezed, he looked at her and saw the begged him to accept, he was going to lose anyway, he still felt weak and his body was not responding to his demands.

Michael got up and took Nikita with him into the bedroom, before the door closed they all heard a “ fine!” from him, They burst out laughing, he was hard to control, but Nikita knew just how to deal with him.

They had spent 6 weeks on the run, and Michael was feeling well, but not yet up to speed, his reflexes were good, but his stamina was slow in returning, he slept for at least 7 hrs. every night, when normally 3 or 4 were enough for him before, he was still plagued with dizzy spells and some weakness.

Nikita was patient with him, listening to him talk for hrs. another big change, he had gone from monosylables to whole sentences in 2 weeks!

Michael and Nikita spent every moment together, they slept together, showered together, they were inseparable, and that was what kept Michael form going insane when he was in total bed rest for 2 weeks. After that he was allowed to walk and sit for small periods of time.

Nikita and Michael had started to talk, about themselves, their lives before and after section and their plans for their future.

Brian , Greg, Birkoff, and Walter had settled into the home life they all shared, it was difficult knowing they could die at any moment! They had to be careful when going into tow for supplies, but they managed to survive. But then….

Birkoff:” walter, Call everyone in “

Walter gave the alarm and everyone came running! Brian from the kitchen, Greg from the bedroom, Michael and Nikita from outside where they had been seating on the porch, drinking lemonade and kissing.

Michael:” what is it Birkoff?”

Birkoff:” section has found a trail, we need to move now. They will be here in 4 hours.”

Greg:” wait, Birkoff check your email “

Michael took Nikita outside and sat under the elm tree to talk, they had to decide whether to go back or run. This could be a trick.

Michael:” Nikita, what do you want to do? We can keep running, but only you and me. we can’t risk their lives any more.”

Nikita:” Michael if this is true, it means that we have a chance to live, but they will most likely separate us. We have proved to them that we are strong and we have the backing of the ops at section. They will not take the risk of us taking over like they did Adrian. If we go back it will be goodbye, But if we run, we stay together but risk getting caught and canceled. I will do whatever you decide. But know this I will always love you, And if they separate us I will fight them “

Nikita leaned over and kissed Michael, and they made passionate love under the tree!

They sit in the living room pondering the decision.

They had loaded their things into the van, sent a message to Madeleine telling her they would arrive in 2 days and they started on their way back to section, Walter and Brian were in the van, Birkoff and Greg took the car, and Michael and Nikita were seating in the back of the van Nikita Noticed that with each mile they got closer to section Michael became quieter and more closed off, she smiled and kissed his lips and laid down to sleep.

She knew he could not be open and loving at section and had to draw his protective shell around himself, so she decided to sleep and let him take his time turning into the machine mode, she felt he was scared, but did not want to say anything, he wanted to protect her and he had made a call to George, and asked to have Nikita kept under him, she had become level 3 and she was not supposed to have anyone protecting her, but George agreed, she would stay under Michael’s protection. They would stay partnered and she would only go on the missions Michael went on.

She was glad, because it made her feel his love and he could have a reason to go visit her often. Michael leaned over and took her hand and kissed it, and he kept a hold of her hand all the way to section.

They all walked into section 2 days later, they were summoned by operations and Madeleine immediately upon arrival and sat through 6 hours of debriefing. After that Michael and Nikita were sent to medlab for a complete check up, Birkoff and Greg went back to their computers and Walter went back to his guns, Brian went with Michael and Nikita to medlab, after medlab Michael went to his office and Nikita went to do her report.

That night

Michael walked out of his office and went to look for Nikita, he found her asleep, on birkoff’s shoulder, Birkoff was playing a game and kept caressing her hair, they looked like brother and sister, he felt a small pang of jealousy but it died the moment she opened her eyes and looked at him, her smile brightening her face, she kissed Birkoff goodnight and sent a kiss to walter, she stood and walked to Michael and together they walked out of section.

2 months later

Michael and Nikita had succeeded in getting permission to move in together, and even when Operations and Madeleine were fumming they were given permission. They got a nice, big loft, overlooking the river and they settled in to make this their home.

it had taken them almost 5 years and a lot of pain but they finally were together and happy.

They also succeeded in taking Elena and Adam away from the clutches of section, Michael had pulled a lot of strings but he was able to set them up in a new home and completely safe! Section would never be able to use Adam or Elena against Michael ever again.
